polish american traditional dish

city chicken

City Chicken (aka, Fake Chicken) is a traditional Polish-American dish. The most curious thing about this dish is that it doesn’t actually contain any chicken. Rather, your featured protein here is actually pork and/or veal. So, why is it called a “City Chicken” in the first place?

Ingredients

Pork or Veal | Flour | Egg  Breadcrumbs | Season Salt Pepper | Oil

Assemble the Skewers  Cut the pork into squares and add 2 or 3 pieces onto a wooden skewer, season the meat on each side with seasoned salt and pepper and prepare for breading.

Breading Cover meat with flour, then place it into beaten egg mixture then roll in breadcrumbs, on each side. Continue with all the remaining skewers.

Frying Heat up your cast iron skillet. Add oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Once hot, add breaded skewers into the skillet. Fry the skewers on each side until golden brown.

Finish Up in the Oven Cover the skillet  and transfer it to a hot oven to finish up cooking (covered for 20 minutes and uncovered for 5 minutes). Serve and enjoy!

Enjoy!
